چکیده

In multimodal image-guided surgery, surgeons have to manage large amounts of information (i.e. images) to plan and perform the surgical procedure. To facilitate management we attempted to model the procedure as a set of distinct steps with a UML class diagram. To each step we assigned a list of relevant image entities extracted from multimodal images and an action describing the purpose of the step. Each image entity was attributed a role that may differ with the step. Our generic information model helps surgeons anticipate surgery, and may contribute to develop simulation and even teaching tools. It may also be used to adapt visualization and interaction modes in neuronavigation. Finally it provides a framework to model the knowledge involved in neurosurgical procedures in the context of image-guided surgery of the central nervous system.

Models of Surgical Procedures for Multimodal Image-Guided Neurosurgery

Improvement of image guided surgery systems requires a better anticipation of the surgical procedure. This anticipation may be provided by a better understanding of surgical procedures and/or the use of information models related to neurosurgical procedures. We are introducing a generic model of surgical procedures in the context of multimodal image-guided craniotomies. The basic principle of t...

Brain mapping in Neurosurgical oncology

After the introduction of MRI, new modalities facilitated the procedure of surgical planning to achieve the microsurgical goal and improve prognosis and quality of life in patients. Despite the variable applications of preoperative and intraoperative mapping and monitoring systems, several limitations and concerns are reported for every modality as well. In this issue of the IrJNS, we are delig...

Modeling different decision strategies in a time tabled multimodal route planning by integrating the quantifier-guided OWA operators, fuzzy AHP weighting method and TOPSIS

The purpose of Multi-modal Multi-criteria Personalized Route Planning (MMPRP) is to provide an optimal route between an origin-destination pair by considering weights of effective criteria in a way this route can be a combination of public and private modes of transportation. In this paper, the fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (fuzzy AHP) and the quantifier-guided ordered weighted averaging (...

Advanced new neurosurgical procedure using integrated system of intraoperative MRI and neuronavigation with multimodal neuroradiological images.

The purpose of this paper is to describe the newly-established technique in the field of neurological surgery for fusion imaging of three-dimensional magnetic resonance image (3D-MRI) and/or three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) for brain tumor surgery. Combining neuronavigation technology and intraoperative MRI, this method remarkably demonstrates spatial relationships of neurovascular...

Fiducials: Achilles' heel of image-guided neurosurgery: an attempt at indigenization and improvement.

Image-guided surgery or neuronavigation has become an important part of the neurosurgical armamentarium in most centers around the world, primarily because it helps to improve patient safety and consistency of surgical results.1–5,8 However, these advantages come at the cost of increased health care and patient expenses. The disposable products used in image-guided surgery are often very costly...
